August 2010

Hello Members,

I know I say it EVERY time, but where has the last 3 months gone?! It’s like they say – time flies when you’re having fun. What a summer we’ve been having too! I’ve envied many a member who has been sat out on the deck enjoying the glorious afternoon sun over lunch or a chilled glass of Pimms.

We’ve had some great occasions here over the past few months. We’ve seen in birthdays and toasted weddings. We’ve welcomed the steam boats back for their bi-annual stop at Lake Yard. We’ve journeyed to the southern hemisphere for the South African & Australian Wine Tastings and our fabulous lady members have dressed up to the nines, hats galore for the ever popular Ladies Day at Ascot luncheon. Who knew they could make so much noise cheering on their horses!

On the water, our Bank Holiday trip to Weymouth was unfortunately called off due to bad weather, however a number of boats did make it out for the raft-up picnic in the Harbour. Our Summer Ball was a great success. The marquee from Hatch Marquee Hire once again looked fabulous and glamour & glitz were in full display as the ladies wore their red carpet best and the gentlemen dazzled us in sharp suits and black tie. The auction in aid of Julia’s House Hospice raised an incredible £2815 on the night with a further very generous donation of £1000. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to all those who donated prizes and pledges and to those who bid and helped contribute to this fantastic total for the charity.

The next few months are just as busy – if not busier! I’ve enclosed the new programme (or attached it if you’re reading this in an email!). The Redwings continue to race twice a week and you’ll notice they are once again going to Cowes. We wish them all the best of luck for a great week of racing.

The August Bank Holiday sees the return of the Seafood Supper and something a bit different on the Friday with Quinns Quinney playing in the Clubhouse.

September looks to be busy as we call a Lake Yard assembly for our Back 2 Skool party night! Ties on please for an evening of school dinners (ala Lake Yard) and school gym dancing. We’re also calling back all the Classic Cars & Motorbikes mid September. We’re looking to fill the lower yard so put this date in your diary and dig out the Turtle Wax! Keeping classic, the CMBA Classic Boat Weekend takes place again at the start of October so come down and see these stunning retro boats. Alternatively, join us for the trip to the Folly Inn (open to motor and sail boats). Please let me know if you are interested in either of this quarter’s boating events and my trusted men-in-the-know Steve Webster and Andrew Cave will be in touch nearer the time.

The Lake Yard AGM takes place on October 23rd and this is open to all members so please come along if there is anything you’d like to air. If you are unable to attend, please pass any feedback about the club to me. Our Commodore Annie Beakhust will be standing down on this day so I’d like to take this early opportunity to thank her for all her help, time and efforts and wish her all the best for the last few months of her time with us as Lake Yard Commodore.

Remember that charging your account with £100 gets you a free bottle of wine!
And £250 - a £25 meal voucher for the club!

Keep an eye on the boards in the club for more fantastic promotions. If you don’t yet receive these promotions by email from me and you’d like to, please let me know!

It just leaves me to wish you an enjoyable rest of the summer and we look forward to seeing you here soon.
