September 2009
I’m writing to you a little earlier than usual purely due to the fact that there is so much going on in the
next few months and we didn’t want you to miss out on any of it! Whilst the nights have started to
slowly draw in and the air has become somewhat fresher, we remain busy in the Lake Yard office. The
Winter storage process is up and running and Boston Whaler have been very busy getting set for the
Southampton Boat Show.
We’ve enjoyed some lovely spells of good weather at the yard over the summer. On 4th July, 6 various
boats came along for the Raft-Up picnic enjoying the ‘secret’ location in the harbour. Along with the
eating, drinking, fishing, sun bathing and swimming in the lovely sunshine, we were also treated to a
fly-past by the full Red Arrows team. Our thanks to Steve Webster for organizing this fun event.
Ladies Day at Ascot-on-Sea on 18th June was very well attended with our ladies stunningly dressed
and hatted for the occasion. The buffet was delicious – our bookie Colin Ray was kept very busy
coping with the betting frenzy and the Commodore did very well, however most of her winnings went
back over the bar as the afternoon stretched into evening.
We’re not quite ready to hang up our deck shoes just yet. On the 26th September we invited members
to bring down their classic cars and motorbikes and then on 3rd/4th October, the Classic Motor Boat
Association are having their annual meet here so be sure to come down and see these beautiful
boats from the as far back as the 1940s.
You’ll see in the new social & dining programme that we really have something for everyone going
on in the next few months. We’re very much looking forward to the Laying Up Supper. This is always a
great evening - magnificent food with great company! Please book in plenty of time as space is
limited. We’re also holding our AGM that same day. This is for the benefit of our members so please
send me any items you would like discussed!
Likewise, book in quick for New Year’s Eve and Christmas Dinner. I’m sure you’ll agree that the menu
looks amazing (my tummy rumbles every time I read it!). Our Roaring 20s New Year’s Eve party is going
to be a smash! Ellie behind the bar is already planning her fancy dress for the occasion!
Autumn sees a newly adapted menu in the Clubhouse so do come down and try it out for yourself.
A big thanks to Bod for our rather unique new menu holders!
You may have seen some SLAM Clothing hanging in the bar over the past few weeks. Our SLAM friends
in Cowes are helping us to launch an exclusive range of Lake Yard casual wear which has already
received a lot of interest in the bar (in the run up to Christmas ;) Watch this space for more info!
If you
have any interesting stories, triumphs (or disasters), photos and/or events you would like to share, then
please get in touch with me and we can hopefully add them to the ‘club news’ section. We’re a
members’ club so let’s hear from our members!
Bring your camera down to Lake Yard this Autumn/Winter to take advantage our great location for
some of the most spectacular sunsets in the area. We’re running a bit of a competition – send in your
best sunset pictures by Monday, 16th November and the winning shot will feature in our Christmas Card!
See you all soon,
Sara
